Nicknames and Monickers

I was asked recently, indirectly via a friend's status, if I had any nicknames growing up. Indeed I did.As a teen, I was called Prego by some because it was a variation of my real last name. And because I enjoyed the Godfather films and the character Don Corleone, my buddy Steve called me Don Ron in my early teen years.

When I was 17 and 18 I often had my camera with me when I spent my summers at Otter Lake campground in Pennsylvania, taking photos of myself and friends and the things we did. Because of that, somebody called me "Ronnie Kodak" and the name stuck and for years after people called me Ronnie Kodak or Kodak. The name followed me down to Florida when I moved there at 20, and even on the cruise ship I worked and lived on in 1991, my name tag read “Ronnie Kodak”, and my boss called me Kodak all of the time.

That was 30 years ago when I received that nickname and there are friends to this day who still call me Kodak.

What about you? Do you or did you have a nickname? If so, what was it, what did it mean, and how did you get it?

  1. It could be worse. My son had a guy in his frat who they called Mary Poppins. The name stuck!
